From Herald News: Tiverton casino on 'fast track' following DEM ruling
January 2017
The plans by Twin River to build a casino and hotel on 45 acres off of William S. Canning Boulevard represents an "insignificant alteration" to the wetlands on the property, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management ruled.
That will allow Twin River to get on the fast track for the permits it needs and makes it more likely that a gambling house will be up and running by July of 2018, the date set by Twin River.
The town will do its part to make that possible, said Stuart Hardy, chair of the town Planning Board.
"They are on a fast track," he said. "We want to keep pace with that if we can and also do our due diligence required for the town."
The DEM sent a letter to Mark Russo, the lawyer for Twin River, stating that DEM engineers reviewed the plans submitted by Twin River and walked the land where the casino is planned.
